Liberation Day March 3 celebrated with festivities all over Bulgaria

On March 3, Bulgaria celebrates its national holiday - the 145th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.

At 11.00 a.m. President Rumen Radev and Vice President Iliana Yotova will participate in the Flag Raising Ceremony in front of the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in Sofia, where tributes will be paid to the memory of those who died for Bulgaria's freedom.

At 18:30 at the "Narodno Sabranie" Square in the capital, during a solemn military ceremony, Rumen Radev will salute the representative units of the Bulgarian army.

The historic Shipka Peak in the Balkan Mountains is also the centre of the celebrations, which will be attended by Prime Minister Gulub Donev. They start at 11.00.

In Krumovgrad, wreaths will be laid at the monuments of the Russian Soldier and Captain Petko Voyvoda.

In Lovech, the memory of the Russian soldiers and local residents who gave their lives for the Liberation will be honoured simultaneously at the monuments of Tsacho Shishkov, the Blood Stone and the 12 monuments in the Alley of Bulgarian-Russian Friendship in the Stratesh Park.

In Burgas the holiday is celebrated with solemn rites, a big horo chain dance and a motor parade. For the sixth year on the festive day, it will pass through the centre and head towards the town of Bulgarovo, where tribute will be paid to the memory of the Christians killed in the temple of St. Athanasius in 1878.A torchlight procession under the motto "Let's light the fire of patriotism" is organised by the Municipality of Berkovitsa. The attractive event will take place on the Kom track in the Balkan Range at 18:30.
