Food prices in Bulgaria continue to rise

The wholesale prices of food have risen in the past week as well, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets. Greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, oranges, rice, cow's cheese, chicken meat, flour are becoming more expensive. 

The Chief Economist of the largest trade union in the country, CITUB, Luboslav Kostov commented to BNR that the prices of goods from the small consumer basket are unrealistically high. 

At the same time, the purchasing power of the mass Bulgarian is decreasing, and the minimum wage amounts to 45% of the necessary means of subsistence

According to the data of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research, a working person in Bulgaria needs BGN 1,352 (€690) per month to live normally.
