An escalation of the attitude towards Bulgaria in Skopje is visible. There is a worsening of the environment for the Bulgarians in North Macedonia, Prof. Naum Kaichev told BNT. The recurrent incidents do not speak well of the European reforms and the changes that North Macedonia needs to make, said Kaichev, who is co-chairman of the joint historical commission between the two countries.

With the closing down of the cultural club in Bitola, the history and name of Ivan Mihailov is being used to attack the Macedonian Bulgarians' right to association. Ivan Mihailov irritates Skopje because in Yugoslavia he defended the rights of the Bulgarians in Macedonia.
Kaichev called for calm discussion of the legacy of personalities like Ivan Mikhailov and Tsar Boris III in the joint historical commission and a joint interpretation of the common history of the two countries.
