The parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, the fifth in two years, have already started. A maximum of 2.7 million Bulgarian citizens are expected to go to the polling stations until the end of election day (20.00 pm), which is 46% of all Bulgarians with a right to vote. For comparison, voter turnout at the previous general elections on October, 2, 2022, was at a record low of 39.4%.

11,810 polling stations were set up in Bulgaria. Bulgarians abroad can also exercise their right to vote. For, the purpose, a total of 737 polling stations in 61 countries were set up for the April 2 election, 18 less as compared to the previous elections.

47,389 Bulgarians from 87 countries submitted voting applications online. Traditionally, the largest number of electronic applications were received from Turkiye- 28,286, followed by Great Britain-3,343 and Germany-3,289. However, the number of applications does not correspond to the actual number of voters, which was much higher – 175,338 in the previous elections.

Important clarification: Bulgarians abroad can vote at a polling station at their convenience. This also applies for Bulgarian tourists who are outside the country today.

The election day in New Zealand ends first, as this country is 10 hours ahead of Bulgaria. There are two polling stations in New Zealand- in Christchurch and Oakland.

The polling stations in the states of California, Arizona and Nevada will close last. Bulgarians in the USA can vote in 56 polling stations.
