The engine was expected in late January as part of a deal with Poland to supply two engines for MiG-29. A few days ago, the Acting Minister of Defense, Dimitar Stoyanov, said that a contract for the second engine is about to be signed.

The Ministry has already announced a public procurement order for the purchase of 6 engines, a new public order for another 6 engines is also expected.
2023 was supposed to be the last year in which the MiG-29s would be used for Bulgaria's air defence, but the ministry allowed an extension of their resource and they will fly at least until 2025. Then the first American F-16 fighters, whose delivery was delayed due to Covid-19 are expected to arrive to Bulgaria.
