This Saturday, April 8, by the Big Lake in the South Park in Sofia, all bird lovers are invited to capture on the canvas birds in their natural environment in a painting with paints, pencils, crayons or with a camera.

Sofia's South Park is home to more than 65 bird species, including great and blue tits, jays, ducks, blackbirds, etc.

Ducks in Sofia's South Park

The project is carried out with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the National Museum of Natural History - BAS, Society of Animalists, Florists and Scientific Illustrators - DAFNI and publishing house "Bulgarian Illustration".

At the end of the month, the colorful drawings will be exhibited in the National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The holiday dates back to World War II, when in 1943 in London, seven-year-old Dorie Cooper visited her uncle in hospital, who was suffering from depression. In an attempt to cheer him up, Dorey asked him to draw her a bird. He managed to sketch a childishly crooked robin, which cheered up the little girl. Her infectious laugh gave her uncle strength to try to look at life more cheerfully.
