Rossen Zhelyazkov from GERB-SDS elected National Assembly speaker

Rossen Zhelyazkov from GERB-SDS was elected National Assembly speaker. 136 MPs voted in favor, no MPs voted against and 94 MPs abstained. The other candidate, Petar Petrov from Vazrazhdane, was supported by 36 MPs. 59 voted against and 139 MPs abstained.

“It is not time for stately speeches or cerebrations. We all are aware of the responsibility and people's expectations for security, justice and stability”, said Rossen Zhelyazkov in his address.

Rossen Zhelyazkov was born in Sofia in 1968. He worked as a lawyer for long years. Rossen Zhelyazkov also served as Secretary of the Municipality of Sofia and Chief Secretary of the Council of Ministers. He also headed the Communications Regulation Commission and the e-Government Agency. Between 2018 and 2021, Rossen Zhelyezkov served as Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.
