Virtuoso saxophonist Vladimir Karparov presents his music together with the BNR Big Band with conductor Antoni Donchev in a concert that will take place on April 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bulgarian National Radio's Studio 1.
Vladimir Karparov has been living and performing in Germany and all across Europe for years. He is a graduate of the "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" Music Academy in Sofia and "Hanns Eisler" Academy in Berlin. He has performed with many famous musicians and has participated in music festivals in Europe, Asia, South and North America, North Africa.
Karparov received an award for his contribution to the promotion of Bulgarian culture around the world by the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria in 2020. He is also the winner of the "Best Young Jazz Artist of the Year” Award (1996). He has third prize from the International Jazz Competition in Monaco (1999), as well as "Medica pro Musica" Award for Young Musicians in Dusseldorf (2000).
In his work, Vladimir Karparov combines modern jazz with Bulgarian folklore.
The composition "Teach me, mother...", is an old folk song presented in Vladimir Karparov’s arrangement. It was recorded with the musicians of his quartet and will be part of the next album, which is expected to be released by the end of the year. The vocals are by Katya Tasheva, who will also appear on stage during the concert in Sofia. The piece is one of the three songs that Vladimir Karparov arranged especially for the BNR Big Band and will be performed at the concert on April 27.
