President of the European Commission pays visit to Kyiv on May 9

In the early hours of May 9, Russia fired 15 missiles against Kyiv that were shot down, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, announced on Telegram. A total of 25 missiles were launched against Ukraine, as 23 of them were shot down, the Ukrainian commander-in-chief, Gen. Valery Zaluzhny said.

Military operations in Ukraine continue on Europe Day. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky compared the fight against Russia now to that against Nazi Germany in World War II and said that Russia would be defeated just as the Nazi Reich was defeated. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, arrived on a visit to Kyiv on May 9. "Good to be back in Kyiv. Where the values we hold dear are defended everyday. So it is such a fitting place to celebrate the day of Europe," von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.

European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, told the European Parliament that it was possible, as a last resort, for the military enterprises in the member states to be obliged to reorient their production for the needs of Europe and Ukraine. He added that he had already visited 15 military enterprises in 13 countries, including Bulgaria, to check their capacity and what they need to increase and accelerate their production.
