The number of sparrows in Bulgaria continues to decrease. This useful bird for humans, which is used to living near and together with us, is disappearing precisely because of humans. This is shown by the results of the seventh edition of the "We count the sparrows" campaign

The last census from this year shows that the highest number of sparrows are encountered in the regions of Yambol, Shumen and Pleven, as the volunteers of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds have counted 3,556 sparrows per 276 locations nationwide.

Spanish sparrow (Passer hispaniolensis)
Statistics show that since the 1980s sparrows in Europe have decreased by nearly 250 million. And their absence is an indicator of a problem in nature, experts warn.
