Last night’s protest in Sofia against violence and in support of the assaulted girl from Stara Zagora ended at Eagles Bridge at 10 PM.
The participants in the protest, organized on social media in front of the central Sofia courthouse, later walked across the city’s main pedestrian zone, temporarily blocking major roadways. Demonstrations took place in many other towns nationwide.
The attack against the 18-year old girl from Stara Zagora took place in June, but scandalized society later when information came to light of a formal approach to the investigative and legal proceedings by the court and the prosecutor’s office.
The Bulgarian Judges Association issued a position in defence of the judge in the case. The way she has been treated demonstrates the “failure” of the judges to uphold their right to be heard, of the authorities for not preventing the demand for the court to explain itself, and of society because it “has allowed calls for vigilante justice with regard to the judge,” the position reads
