EC: The murder of Alexey Petrov should not affect Bulgaria's entry into Schengen

The murder of Alexey Petrov should not be confused with the admission of Bulgaria to Schengen, which has its own trajectory and clear rules.
This is how Commission spokeswoman Anitta Hipper answered a question about how this case will affect Bulgaria's accession to the area of free movement, BNR correspondent Angelina Piskova reported from Brussels.
For now, Bulgaria's entry is vetoed by two member countries - the Netherlands and Austria. The Netherlands cites organized crime and corruption in Bulgaria as a motive.

Hipper recalled that for 12 years the Commission claimed that Bulgaria and Romania were ready for Schengen, and expressed the expectation that this year the Council of the EU would take a positive decision on this.
