Defence Minister Tagarev discusses measures for strengthening NATO Eastern flank with North Macedonia ambassador

Minister of Defence Todor Tagarev has met with the ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria Agneza Popovska, Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry has announced. The sides expressed satisfaction with the good cooperation and the intensive political dialogue in the sphere of defence, on a bilateral basis as well as within NATO. Discussions focused on the contribution of the Republic of North Macedonia to the measures for strengthening the Eastern flank via the NATO multinational battle group in Bulgaria with framework nation Italy, the future development of the battle group to brigade level, as well as transport connectivity. Minister Tagarev expressed support for the European future of the Republic of North Macedonia in fulfillment of the commitments assumed, and laid emphasis on its importance in bilateral cooperation, but also in view of the security and development of the entire region.

A few days ago, Bulgaria’s minister of defence also discussed the security risks in the Black Sea with his Romanian and Ukrainian counterparts - Angel Tilvar and Oleksii Reznikov - and with the ambassadors to Bulgaria of the Netherlands Simon van der Burg and of Turkey Aylin Sekizkok.
