A 4th century Roman tomb on display in the centre of Sapareva Banya

A Roman tomb, discovered during the renovation of a house and streets more than 10 years ago in the town of Sapareva Banya, has been moved from the place where it was located in the 4th century AD. It will now be displayed in the centre of the town, , near the mineral geyser, about 700 metres from its original location. 

The Roman tomb is well preserved, with its architecture completely intact. During the archaeological excavations, 24 graves and a slab with inscriptions embedded in one of the walls were discovered. The tomb was most likely the family tomb of a military man, archaeologists believe. The relocation was necessary because of the infrastructure in this part of the city, reports BNR correspondent in Kyustendil Kiril Falin.

At the new site, the municipality has already begun the construction of a museum exhibition, which will house a permanent collection of antique artefacts and jewellery from the city and region's past.
