45-year-old Valentina Burnett, originally from Dobrich, has won the Sun newspaper's annual Who Cares Wins award in the Best Midwife category.

The awards honour professionals employed in the NHS for outstanding attitude and care shown above and beyond the call of duty. The awards were presented at a ceremony attended by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as well as well-known sport, showbiz and politics personalities.

Valentina has been living in the United Kingdom since 2003 and has worked at Southampton General Hospital for 15 years. A week before the official ceremony, she was invited to the Channel 4 studios where popular TV chef Jamie Oliver personally broke the news to her that she was the winner.

Valentina Burnett dedicates the award to her colleagues who are going the extra mile for the health and well-being of patients.
