At a sitting today, the Central Election Commission (CEC) confirmed its decision from last night for the local election on 29 October, and the possible run-off on 5 November to take place by paper ballot only.
The Commission members rejected the proposal for a new item to be put on the agenda of the sitting – the reconsideration of the CEC’s decision, by force of which the voting at all polling stations will be by paper ballots only. The Commission states as its main motive that a reconsideration and reversal of the decision would bring chaos and confusion into the election process such as the authority in charge of administering the election must not allow.
During the sitting the Commission also stated that the e-Government decision, certifying the voting machines had not been signed by the Minister for e-government, but by Deputy Minister Mihail Stoynov instead.
