GERB-SDS mayoral candidate Anton Hekimyan has made his first comments after Sunday's municipal elections, in which he came third in the race for Sofia mayor.

"I thank all those who supported me and voted for me. I also respect the choice of those who did not support me and congratulate the candidates who are going to the run off," Hekimyan wrote on social media a day after the vote.

"The results are worrying: the first candidate is in first place with only 34,000 votes (at the moment) out of 1,100,000 registered voters... At the same time, 4.1% in Sofia do not support anyone and this result is growing," said Hekimyan, adding: "For me and perhaps for those who did not vote, there is a difficult choice between state security and state property! And yes - everyone is responsible for their choices. I made mine and I have no regrets. I will work and defend it!"
