European Chief Prosecutor says society must be educated on anti-corruption

Serious VAT crimes are financed by other, more serious criminal activities. When we fight against various financial crimes, we also fight against large criminal groups, European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi said during an anti-corruption forum in Sofia.

Fighting corruption is about convincing citizens that it affects their lives and that justice is something they can feel. Corruption continues to be tolerated and no country is immune. Society should be educated on anti-corruption. Tax crimes and fraud are considered less dangerous and this is the reason why the criminal groups involved in such activities in Europe are becoming larger, Kövesi also said.
