EC opens infringement proceedings against Bulgaria, Austria and Poland for failing to submit revised green transition plans on time

The European Commission today sent a formal request to Bulgaria, Austria and Poland to communicate within two months their revised national energy and climate plans to meet the EU's 2030 climate and energy targets, reports BTA.

The Commission said it had opened an infringement procedure against the three countries for failing to submit a draft update of their integrated national energy and climate plan for the period 2021-2030 by 30 June 2023, in line with European rules. The national plans are crucial if the EU is to meet its 2030 energy and climate targets for greenhouse gas emission reductions, renewable energy and energy efficiency, and to design appropriate supporting policies, the Commission statement read.

Meanwhile, the EC has approved Bulgaria's territorial plans for a just transition and that the country will receive €1.2 billion for the coal regions of Stara Zagora, Kyustendil and Pernik.
