Schengen, the Eurozone and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development are priorities for Bulgarian businesses. After making every effort and meeting the Schengen requirements, why aren’t we equal to others, asked Vasil Velev, chairman of the board of directors of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association in an interview with Nova TV. “The benefit foregone for the country from Schengen by land is over EUR 1 billion a year.” 97% of the freight traffic is by land. Bulgaria has shown it is equal to the other countries, but it is treated as a second-rate country. “This is unacceptable for Bulgarian businesses and we demand a tougher reaction,” Vasil Velev said. “We would support a tougher reaction by the government. Why not impose a veto on some Austrian initiative? There should be calls to boycott Austrian commodities and to refrain from using Austrian services. Austrian transit transport should be controlled better, as Austria wants,” Velev said.
