On April 27, volunteers from a total of 465 locations throughout Bulgaria took part in the eighth edition of the "Let’s Count the Sparrows” campaign of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. A total of 6,240 sparrows of three species – house sparrow, field sparrow and Spanish sparrow – were counted, as the house sparrow is the most numerous (83% ).

Traditionally, most of the birds were spotted in house yards (39%), followed by green space between blocks (27%), parks (12%), town squares (6%) and quiet streets (4%). The data confirm once again the importance of green areas both in the yards of houses and in the spaces between blocks of flats as an important environment for biodiversity in cities.
