The 10th edition of the National Lavender Festival is taking place 14-15 June in Sredno Gradishte village near Chirpan, where some of the oldest lavender plantations in the country are located, some over 80 years old. The idea of the event is to lend a sense of “urban chic” to the rustic beauty of Sredna Gora Mount and more specifically the picturesque village of Sredno Gradishte, Nina Gerginova, chair of the National Lavender Festival association says in an interview with the Bulgarian news agency BTA.
On Saturday the guests to the festival will be able to visit a bazaar of lavender and organic products, including a wide range of different kinds of honey and essential oils. A “health trail” across beautiful lavender plantations takes visitors to an organic apiary in the neighbouring village of Izvorovo where they will be able to watch a demonstration of how the honeycombs are taken out of the beehive. Another attraction for the visitors to the village is a visit to the lavender oil extraction distillery.
The National Lavender Festival started in 2014, bringing together producers, agro specialists, farmers and entrepreneurs. As is the tradition, the festival features boutique productions – perfumery, small organic farms, distilleries, apiaries, as well as artists, musicians, actors.
