Today is Bulgarian Folklore Day, designated as such by the Ministry of Culture in 2019. The idea for such a day belongs to Chinary folklore ensemble, with the support of the Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices, percussionist Stoyan Yankulov-Stundzhi, 101 Kaba Bagpipes etc.

“Keep Bulgarian tradition alive and pass it onto the coming generations! Bulgarian folklore focuses the wisdom of our millennia-old history in which past, present and future intertwine,” Chinary ensemble says. There are folklore regions in Bulgaria – Shoppe, Thracian, Rhodope, Pirin, Dobrudzha and Northern, with some researchers adding one more – Strandzha – each with its own musical style, costumes, embroidery and dances.

To mark Bulgarian Folklore Day, a national contest for amateur folk dance ensembles for performers aged 13 to 18 will take place at 7 PM the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
