Greek fires not advancing towards Bulgaria, Interior minister says

The fires on the Greek border have been contained and there is no fire progressing towards Bulgaria. Clearance has been made around the areas where there are old mines left over from the wars on both sides of the border, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov told journalists at Plovdiv airport. "There is no danger in the next two days that the fire in Greece will cross our border. If it does, it will be extinguished only with aerial equipment so as not to endanger the lives of Bulgarian rescuers," Stoyanov said.

He met with crews from Spain and the Czech Republic who had been involved in fighting fires in Bulgaria over the past week. Minister Stoyanov presented them with awards and thanked them for their work. "I thank you all for the incredible help you have given our country in the fight against the fires," he stressed.
