Dangerous fire near Sakar mountain now under control, combating the flames in Slavyanka continues

The fire, which was the reason for emergency situation to be declared in the municipalities of Harmanli and Topolovgrad on Wednesday, is now under control, the head of the Haskovo fire department, Mitko Chakalov, reported. The flames have covered 12,000 decares of forest, dry grasses and bushes. Fifteen teams remain in the area as they will extinguish a section around the village of Cherepovo. Chakalov said that the use of a helicopter would not be necessary today.

Fighting the large fire in Slavyanka mountain bordering Greece continues by air and land. Two Spanish aircraft are also involved. Over 160 fire-fighters, foresters, military and volunteers fight the eastern front of the fire. During the past night there was no spreading of the flames.

A total of 214 fires were extinguished in the country during the past 24 hours, two people were injured, the General Directorate Fire Safety and Protection of the Population reported.
