The wildfires in Rila Mountain continues to rage

Photo: BTA

For a week already, firefighters, soldiers, forest officials, teams of the Rila National Park and volunteers have been fighting the fiery element under Cherni vrah peak, in Rila Mountain, at 2,300 meters above sea level. Extinguishing by hand does not give results, and the area covered increases.

Because of the strong wind yesterday, the flames spread in a southern direction towards the bed of the Bistritsa river, as well as in the east, towards the Otovitsa hut.

There is no danger for the population, because the fire is far from populated areas.

Today, the inclusion of a helicopter is expected, which yesterday made 22 dousings with 44 tons of water, and heavy equipment was loaded into the area of the fire. Two bulldozers are making roads to the inaccessible areas of the terrain covered by the flames.
