Shеdrack Kimaiyo and Harriet Chebore from Kenya triumphed at the Sofia Marathon 2024 in the classic 42.195 km distance. Shеdrack Kimaiyo stopped the clock at 2 hours, 15 minutes and 4 seconds, while Harriet Chebore clocked 2 hours, 38 minutes and 25 seconds.
The fastest Bulgarians were Ismail Ssenyange, who finished seventh in the men's marathon, and Nadezhda Angelova, who finished fourth in the women's marathon.
Over 7,200 runners took part in this year's marathon, which is one third more than in 2023. The number of foreigners who ran in the different distances also increased - over 1,100 people from more than 50 countries. All of them passed by iconic locations in Sofia and were cheered on by the residents of the capital city.
This year, the marathon turned into a celebration as it was accompanied for the first time by a rich entertainment and music program. Eight stages were set up along the marathon route, overflowing with shows and good vibes.
