North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated that the Macedonian issue is not closed, because the European Court of Human Rights has ruled that the rights of people with a Macedonian identity in Bulgaria are not being respected.
His words to the public broadcaster MRT came after Greece's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 23 described the statements made by North Macedonia's Premier during his visit to the United States as a provocation against Greece.
In a statement, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Hristijan Mickoski's remarks in New Jersey referred to an "unresolved" and "existing" Macedonian issue. ''The issue is permanently and irrevocably settle'', Greece’s Foreign Ministry said.
Hristijan Mickoski added that there is no communication with the new Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, but he would be happy to talk with him and emphasized that bilateral issues cannot be part of the negotiation process between Skopje and the EU.
