Swedish authorities release cargo ship Vezhen

Bulgarian-owned vessel flying Maltese flag freed after Baltic fibre-optic cable incident

The Vezhen, detained for damaging a fibre optic cable in the Baltic Sea, has been released. The investigation found no evidence of sabotage. This was announced by the Swedish prosecutor's office.

A few days ago, the Bulgarian vessel Vezhen, flying the Maltese flag, was detained by Swedish authorities on suspicion of sabotage.


A fibre-optic cable was damaged in the area the ship traveled through on Saturday night.

The release of the Vezhen has not yet been officially confirmed by the Bulgarian authorities.
