Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Bulgarian Agriculture Academy launched street protests in Sofia on the Day of the National Revival Leaders. They call on the authorities to allot more money for science in the 2017 state budget and demand decent salaries. The leadership of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences asks for an extra EUR 6 million, in order to increase the salaries of the Bulgarian scientists. However, the country’s cabinet is able to spend an extra EUR 2.5 million only. The Bulgarian labor unions said that this money is quite insufficient. A junior assistant at BAS receives a montlhy salary amounting to EUR 220 only.
