Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has talked over the phone with European Council President Donald Tusk to acquaint him with ongoing work for the snap parliamentary elections due later this month, as well as with tensions that have emerged in bilateral relations with Turkey resulting from the latter’s interference in the election process and Bulgaria’s domestic affairs. Talking to Radev, Donald Tusk has voiced his support for the letter sent by the Bulgarian head of state which calls for the adoption of a joint operational plan of action of the European Union in the event of a sharp increase in migration pressure, as well as for extra financial support for the protection of Bulgaria’s borders. The press service of the Bulgarian president has reported that at the beginning of April Donald Tusk is going to visit Bulgaria to get first-hand impressions of the situation in the region and of the protection of the EU outer borders.
