There is no country in Europe that has invested so much effort in protecting the external EU borders. This was what Chancellor of Austria, Sebastian Kurtz, said after his meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Sofia.

Chancellor Kurtz said that they shared the opinion that security was the most serious topic for the EU and that joint work on stopping migration was needed. Mr. Kurtz added that Borissov had pointed out Turkey's good work on stopping illegal migration.

The Austrian Chancellor pointed out that cooperation with Turkey on such topics was very important, but added: "We have a clear attitude towards Turkey's accession to the EU – it is too early."

Austria supports Bulgaria's accession to Schengen, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said. "We have talked about the gas hub and the supply of gas from different sources, and in this area I expect help thanks to his expertise," Borissov added.
