President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, said in Sofia that during the EU-Western Balkans Summit tomorrow, leaders from the region will meet directly with their counterparts from the EU for the first time in 15 years.

"We have to demonstrate here and now that we care about the economic development of the Balkans because it is in the interest of the EU and the aim of our meeting in Bulgaria is to prove it," Tusk said.

Speaking about the US tariffs on European producers of steel and aluminum, which will also be among the issues discussed in Sofia, Tusk criticized US President Donald Trump. Pointing out that the US's motivation behind this step was said to be protection of their national security, Tusk commented that it was absurd  for the US president to perceive the European Union as an enemy.
