The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov is on an official visit to Bulgaria. After meeting with him, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ekaterina Zaharieva expressed hope that negotiations for NATO membership of North Macedonia would begin in July and that by December the country could already be a full NATO ally. "We have opened a new page in history," Minister Dimitrov said and thanked Bulgaria for the support.
This is the first visit of Nikola Dimitrov to Bulgaria after the adoption of the new name of the neighboring country. Last week, Bulgaria became one of the first to ratify North Macedonia’s Accession Protocol to NATO.
