For the first time a book by Irish writer Frank O’ Connor (1903-1966), best known for his short stories and memoirs, has been published in Bulgarian.

The trranslation of the collection "My Oedipus Complex and Other Stories" is the work of Iglika Vassileva.

The selection of stories in "My Oedipus Complex and Other Stories" is work by English writer Julian Patrick Barnes. The book’s premiere at the end of October was hosted in the Irish Embassy by Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Bulgaria, H.E. Michael Forbes.

BNR’s Assia Chaneva talked to the Irish Ambassador about Frank O'Connor and why some of his books were banned during the 20th century like those by other Irish writers at that time.

H.E. Michael Forbes also talked about the “Judging Shaw” event in Sofia dedicated to G. B. Shaw. It will consist of an exhibition and a documentary film - both inspired by the renowned Irish writer, playwright, critic, humorist and political activist George Bernard Shaw. The event will start with a screening of the documentary “Judging Shaw” by Irish journalist Fintan O' Toole. “Judging Shaw” is to take place at the National Library "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" on November 4.
