2019 is controversial year for Bulgarian tourism

The 2019 tourist season has been extremely controversial for Bulgaria, according to the Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents. Until September, the decline in in the sphere reached 2%. This is largely due to the decline in the number of EU tourists with 500,000 fewer nights. The number of German tourists is down 23%; that of Russians - 15%; Scandinavians - 27%. At the same time the number of Romanian guests is up 29% and Bulgaria’s northern neighbors have occupied the number 2 spot of the tourism market in Bulgaria. After 5 years of decline, the Ukrainian market reports a growth of 60%. The UK holds the fourth market position with 7 percent growth. Poland is also seriously moving forward and is the third most important market for Bulgaria. Outbound tourism in Bulgaria is up 6% and the upward trend continues for the tenth consecutive year. The top foreign destination for Bulgarians is Greece - 28%, followed by Turkey with 14%.
