250,000 protective masks have been seized in an attempt to be illegally exported from Bulgaria at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint between Bulgaria and Turkey. Officers from Bulgaria's Border Police said the masks were found in a lorry driven by a Turkish national. The driver tried to transfer the masks to the territory of the Republic of Turkey. The case is under investigation.

Bulgaria has banned the export of protective equipment, including medical masks, as a measure in the attempts to cope with the spread of coronavirus in the country.

This is already the third time that Bulgaria's border police halts smuggling attempts of protective equipment in the past days.
