Dozens of police officers organized a protest in the garden next to the interior ministry building in Sofia, demanding changes in the “Legal and regulatory activities” directorate, which, as they say, has not been doing its job properly for years.
One of the problems is the accumulation of a great deal of overtime worked, on the basis of irregular hours, said Valentin Popov, chairman of the trade union federation of interior ministry staff for the BNR. Overtime is compensated for with 12 days of leave within one year, and in Sofia 96 hours are used up in the first 6 months of the year. Valentin Popov stressed that the protest is a warning and a way to state that the police officers will uphold their demands to the end.
