"The ruling party's decision to hold a rally in its support in close proximity to the civil protest and at the same time was a deliberate provocation to civil peace," Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev stated in an address to the nation.

In his words, the Bulgarian citizens rose in protest as a reaction to the corruption, instilling of fear, prosecutor's racketeering and inaction against the robbery, trampling on the presumption of innocence, suffocation of the freedom of speech, unscrupulous lies and lack of rule of law.
"Now that Bulgarians are in the square, Europe has no right to look at Bulgaria with eyes wide shut! The way out of the current situation is the resignation of the government and the prosecutor general, " the Bulgarian head of state added.
