Another anti-government protest in Sofia

A protest has called for the resignation of the government and the Prosecutor General. The event has been peaceful, but hindered traffic in the center of the capital city.

The protest is held on a significant date. 31 years ago, on December 14, protesters blocked the parliament with a request to drop the text on the leading role of the Bulgarian Communist Party from the communist constitution. When the crowd refused to disperse and attracted new protesters, regime leader back then Petar Mladenov uttered the phrase: "It is better for the tanks to come." Later, denying that he said the threat led to Mladenov's resignation as the country's first president after the overthrowing of dictator Todor Zhivkov.
