Mountain rescuers save injured tourists in Stara Planina

The rescue operation in the Balkan Mountains continued late in the evening as rescuers reached two severely injured tourists and brought them down the mountain on stretchers, BNT has informed. For two days, seven people were injured in the area of Northern Dzhendem and one died after slipping near Zhaltets peak and falling 300 meters down the slope.

The Mountain Rescue Service said that the cause of all accidents in the first two days of the year was underestimation of conditions in the mountains and lack of appropriate equipment. "How many people should lose their lives in order for the need for rescue helicopters to become clear?" Mountain Rescue Service head Ivan Neshev said about the need for air ambulances.
