Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary hold the last place in the EU when it comes to successful battle with corruption. This has become clear from the results of the Corruption Perceptions Index 2020, presented by Transparency International. In the chart, Bulgaria holds 69th place in the world.

The index has been published annually since 1995 and is based on analyzes, assessments and perceptions of the level of corruption, according to business representatives, as well as local and foreign analysts in the respective countries.

According to political scientist Ognyan Minchev, the level of corruption in Bulgaria may have been caused by the lack of institutional reforms in this country.
