As of March 8, the planned admissions and surgical operations in all hospitals in the red zones in Bulgaria will be suspended. The capital Sofia is also among them, the director of the Sofia-based Alexandrovska Hospital, Prof. Boris Bogov, told BNT. The instruction was received from the operational headquarters, and the official order is expected.

The aim of the measure is to free beds for patients with coronavirus.

"There are enough medical professionals. The hospitals are prepared, the colleagues know more now, we do not have deficits of anything, but for this period from November until today we have not imported any medical staff. The call to all is to follow the measures, because the third wave of the pandemic has come and in the coming weeks we will see an increase in the number of infections", Bogov warned .
