57% of Bulgarians support NATO. 22 percent want the country to withdraw from the alliance, reads NATO's annual report presented by its Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Support for NATO in the member states is 62 percent, and 11% are opponents of the pact.

In 2020, Bulgaria allocated 1.6 percent of the country's GDP or 942 million euros for defence. By 2024, the indicator should be 2% of the GDP. 19.2% of the funds are spent on new equipment with a target of 20 percent. Staff costs account for 56% of defence money. 18 percent are for equipment maintenance, 7% are for infrastructure.
Stoltenberg summed up that, despite the pandemic, in 2020 NATO spending continued to rise for the sixth consecutive year and he expected the trend to continue, BTA reported.
