Bulgaria and Romania gain access to Visa Information System of EU

Photo: library

Bulgaria and Romania have successfully completed the technical tests required to connect to the European Visa Information System (VIS).

Starting in July, the border authorities of the two countries will have the right to access information that already exists in the system, but not to add new information. They will be able to verify the validity and authenticity of Schengen visas issued by other EU Member States. Full access to VIS will be possible once Bulgaria and Romania are admitted to the Schengen area.
