Directorate for National Construction Control stops construction of controversial skyscraper in Sofia

The Directorate for National Construction Control in Bulgaria has stopped the completion of the Golden Century skyscraper in Sofia due to a construction permit that expired in January 2020.

Earlier today, employees of construction company Artex protested in front of the regional ministry calling for the continuation of construction and accusing the institutions of administrative arbitrariness. According to the General Development Plan of Sofia, a height of up to 26 m of residential buildings is allowed in the area, while the 34-storey skyscraper project exceeds 100 meters.

Mayor of Lozenets, Konstantin Pavlov has called it a symbol of illegal construction and political corruption.
