Ministry of Defence: call-ups have nothing to do with the conflict in Ukraine

Call-up notices are routine, Bulgarian Ministry of Defence said in response to the concerns of Bulgarian men who had received calls to report to their military districts. It added that call-ups have no connection to the military conflict in Ukraine.

The Central Office of Military Districts and its structures in Bulgaria carry out annual updates of the database of army reserve men who are on military record. For this purpose The Central Office sends call-up orders for wartime mobilization to citizens but do not take them into actual military service and do not mobilise them.

Mobilisation can be declared only with decision of the National Assembly and a presidential decree, the Ministry of Defence said.
