There is no radiation leakage after the fire at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

Fire broke out after fighting for the biggest nuclear power station in Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia. Firefighters have put out the fire at the training building, which is off the power station’s perimeter. Zaporizhzhia has 6 reactors. The power plant is now under the control of the Russian army. Because of the fighting the UK has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

“I would like to reassure Bulgaria’s citizens. There is no radiation leakage after the explosion and the fire. The fighting close to one of the biggest nuclear power stations is cause for grave concern,” said Bulgaria’s Environment Minister Borislav Sandov. He stated that the security measures at Bulgaria’s Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant have been bolstered.

At their second round of talks, Ukraine and Russia agreed to open green corridors for the withdrawal of civilians from the combat zones.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded direct talks with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.  “There is no other way to stop this war,” he said. Zelensky called the events at Zaporizhzhia NPP “nuclear terror”.

Despite the Russian attacks there is no tangible change at the fronts in Ukraine. The Ukrainian defence awaits an airborne attack near Odessa.

The Pentagon has stated it has a direct line of communication with the Russian Ministry of Defence to prevent conflicts and incidents, Reuters reports.
