Ukrainian authorities say Russia is not observing a temporary ceasefire that was agreed in two cities - Mariupol and Volnovakha, the attacks are continuing, and the evacuation is postponed, the BBC reports.

The BBC quotes the deputy mayor of Mariupol, Serhiy Orlov, as saying that the ceasefire has completely collapsed amid Russian bombardment. “There is no ceasefire in Mariupol and there is no ceasefire all along the route. Our civilians are ready to escape but they cannot escape under shelling.”

Earlier the Russian Defence Ministry stated that Russia was declaring a cease-fire and opening humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population of Mariupol and Volnovakha.
