After the extraordinary summit of NATO in Brussels, Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev announced that the Alliance is strengthening its Eastern flank. Despite the increase of the military presence in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia, one of the main goals of NATO is to prevent in any way escalation and expansion of the conflict outside the territory of the warring Russia and Ukraine, the head of state assured. He pointed out that the summit also confirmed the protection for each member state that is threatened under Art. 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

The head of state stressed that NATO countries were united in condemning Russia's aggression and inadmissible war, as well as the need for measures in support of Ukraine, a cessation of hostilities and a return to diplomacy.

The meeting also discussed increasing the mobility and sustainability of logistics in NATO, as well as the construction of a system of fuel pipelines between Bulgaria, Romania and Greece, through NATO's financial mechanisms.

The President again raised the issue of Bulgarian fighter aircraft and called for not allowing Bulgaria to abdicate from the protection of Bulgarian airspace, which requires concrete solutions. Rumen Radev pointed out that he had asked the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Defense to consider all possibilities in this direction.
